Enhance any indoor or outdoor space with beautiful Spanish Moss. This clumping air plant is perfect for any room or patio. Indoors, you can place it in hanging baskets or drape it over indoor plants near windows.  It does need indirect sunlight, but you can use “dried” Spanish Moss for planters without sunlight (great to cover the top of planters with artificial plants). It can be used in flower arrangements, home décor, and many other crafts. You can use Spanish moss to line hanging baskets or wire plant forms to contain the potting mix and retain water.  It is also an excellent mulch for your garden, and you can even be grown it in your own trees, fences or outside structures, with the correct outside conditions.

Spanish moss typically should ONLY BE WATERED 1-2 times a week, but this depends on its placement and environment (some areas with dryer conditions may require a misting every 2-3 days).

YOU WILL RECEIVE: ONE OVERSTUFFED BOX of fresh premium Florida Spanish Moss.  Please be sure to remove the moss from the box upon receipt as it may become damaged if left too long without sunlight, air and water.

Your moss will arrive with with damp paper towels to keep your moss moist and prevent damage- IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO REMOVE THE MOSS FROM THE BOX AND TOWELS AS SOON AS IT ARRIVES!!

WHAT TO EXPECT UPON ARRIVAL:   This is raw natural live Spanish Moss. It is not the same as the treated and clean moss that you see in the craft stores. There may be twigs, leaves or debris entangled in this moss, and maybe even a bug or two. We try to remove as much of this as I can, but it is raw live moss, 100% organic, harvested from trees and not sprayed with any chemicals.

Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is a beautiful and natural epiphyte that changes color based on its moisture level. In healthy, normal conditions, Spanish moss has a soft silvery-gray or pale green hue, giving it its iconic, wispy appearance. When it becomes too dry, the strands may look more brittle and slightly darker or faded, losing their soft texture and turning crisp to the touch. On the other hand, if the moss stays overly wet for too long without enough airflow, it can appear darker green or brownish and may feel heavy or soggy—signs that it needs time to dry out properly.

During the hot Florida summer months, it’s normal for Spanish moss to go very dry and brittle as it protects itself from the intense heat. This is a natural dormancy phase. Simply bring the moss indoors, provide gentle misting, bright indirect light, and good air circulation, and it will gradually return to its soft, silvery beauty. Spanish moss thrives best when it’s allowed to dry fully between waterings, just like it does draped from oak trees in nature.

****This IS NOT craft store, treated moss.  Please expect all of what has been mentioned above before ordering****

DID YOU KNOW???
Spanish-moss (Tillandsiausneoides)
Spanish-moss, also called Florida moss, long moss, or graybeard, is not a true moss. It is an epiphytic plant, which grows on another plant, but does not rely on the host plant for nutrients; epiphytes make their own food.  They are sometimes referred to as air plants because most have aerial roots; however, Spanish-moss does not have any roots. It uses its long, thin, scaly stems to wrap around the host tree and hang down from the branches. The leaves are covered with cup-like, permeable scales that 'catch' moisture and nutrients from the air and from pockets on the surface of the host. This water-trapping ability allows Spanish-moss to withstand long dry periods. In extreme dry spells, the plant becomes dormant until moisture returns. The plants have very tiny seeds that are dispersed by wind and birds. Birds may also carry off small fragments that easily reproduce new plants.
